Logical thinking

Logical and creative thinking development

At Academy International Karolkowa 49, a Bilingual Primary School, apart from practicing gymnastics which is so important for the body, we also exercise the mind!

We are convinced that owing to our original program “Mental gymnastics” the pupils at Academy International, not only develop logical thinking, but also creativity, which allows them to think outside the box, find non-standard solutions in action and excite curiosity.

Objectives of the “Mental gymnastics” program

One of the main objectives of the “Mental gymnastics” program is the efficient use of memory, which is undoubtedly useful in the later stages of education, and the development of emotional resilience.

Logical thinking is also shaped on the basis of selected elements of mathematical education (extended program in mathematics).

Development of concentration skills is achieved owing to a series of games based on stimuli selection, attention sustaining and multitasking skills. An integral part of this program is a game of chess. We created compulsory chess classes for all students in our bilingual school, as a part of the basic program. Our school is certified with the “Chess friendly school” and “Chess in school and kindergarten” certificates. All of our teachers undergo regular chess trainings, the school collaborates with a chess professional and runs the Chess University for students and parents.

Be like Napoleon … –  the chess program in our school

Academy International is a “Chess friendly school”!

At our school we have chosen chess as the main tool for the implementation of our objective – logical thinking, concentration and emotional resilience development. The game of chess teaches fair play, hard work, systematicity, responsibility for own decisions and concentration – therefore, it constitutes compulsory activity for all our students as a part of an innovative, extended basic program. One of the innovations of this project is that the classes are conducted by certified integrated education teachers who participate in regular trainings themselves. This is extremely important in shaping children’s sense of security and emotional resilience.

Each game of chess brings many educational benefits, such as:

  • development of analytical skills,
  • building strategic plans,
  • development of prediction skills,
  • noticing own mistakes and drawing constructive conclusions.

In addition, the game of chess plays a huge role in shaping personality – it teaches respect towards your opponent, pursuit of goals and overcoming obstacles. It gives young people a sense of self-confidence.
